Cruiserworks Commando Boots - March 29, 2005
Since 1999, Cruiserworks has been building boots that combine traditional
style with high-tech features. Now there's a new member of the line-the
Commando, offering the look of military/police lace-up footwear.
Let me admit my bias up front; I like the extra support and walking
comfort of lace-up boots. And I really like the way the Cruiserworks
version performs, on and off the bike.
Like other Cruiserworks boots, the Commandos come with the company's
shock resistant footbed, V-Grip outsole, Styrene toe guard, Kevlar blend
ankle armor and Dri-Lex moisture-wicking liner. They also come with
Cruiserworks' most amazing innovation-truly waterproof leather.
Years ago, Cruiserworks' original Classic boots were responsible for
the development of American Motorcyclist magazine's official "wade in
the creek" waterproof test. They passed with flying colors then, and
the Commandos proved equally impervious to moisture when I tried them
recently. Best of all, the leather itself shed water, so the Commandos
don't get soggy and heavy like boots that rely on a moisture barrier
inside the leather.
Besides that, the Commandos offer the flexibility of lace-ups. You can
wear them inside or outside your riding pants while you're on the bike.
And when you're off the bike, they're truly comfortable for walking,
which means you probably won't need to pack and extra pair of shoes.
Cruiserworks Commando boots are available in sizes 8 through 14 for
$259 a pair. The similar Lady Lace model comes in women's sizes 5.5
to 11 for $229 a pair.
