Gear for Gals: Lady Lace Boot from Cruiserworks - March 29, 2005

Women like shoes. We even have a saying, "If you find a shoe that fits, buy it in every color." Aside from the flip humor (I hear the mean chuckling), it really means two things: women have a true appreciation for good-fitting, fashionable shoes; and that we also have a very hard time finding them. Now try searching for fashionable, good-fitting women's motorcycle boots and it's nearly hopeless. At least it was for me, until now.

I have finally found boots that not only look fashionable enough to wear (sans motorcycle) with a pair of jeans; are comfortable enough to stand in, on your feet, all day long (I've done it!) without a twinge; and-this is the amazing part-are also made for serious riding.

The Lady Lace Boot is the most recent design of Cruiserworks, the North Carolina manufacturers of high-quality motorcycle boots for men and women. Styled to look like the leather lace-up boots you'd see in any ladies shoe shop, I found myself not only choosing to wear them out to dinner after the day's ride, but polishing them lest any nasty bug juice remained on my beautiful boots. These are definitely not the pudgy "moon boots," Rhinestone Cowboy look-alikes, or even chunky hiking boots we've been wearing up 'til now. They are simply classic, black leather boots at a comfortable 9" height. What took so long for someone to come out with these?

As with the complete line of Cruiserworks' boots, the Lady Lace Boot is made of premium, full grain leather and is 100-percent waterproof.guaranteed. The waterproofing is actually "in" the leather, not just sprayed on. I wore them on a recent 4,000 mile, two-week ride through many downpours and found them continually comfortable and dry. The tongue is sewn in, with seams sealed, so no water will get in through the laces.

Keeping your feet dry in the heat is important for comfort as well, and the Dri-Lex® lining inside the boots wick perspiration away from your socks. In addition, a layer of Kevlar® blend fabric sandwiched between the leather and the lining for abrasion protection if needed in an accident. The toe guard is styrene, which is light, sturdy and doesn't conduct cold like a steel toe would.

The lace-style boots allows you to snug the boot around the ankle, giving a comfortable fit without leaving gaps like a pull-on boot can. The lace-retention strap wraps around to keep laces from catching on pegs or shifter, but is removable if desired.

You might have seen Cruiserworks being sold at rallies, but if you can't come to them, they can come to you. Lady Lace boots are also sold through mail order via their online website: www.cruiserworks.com and your satisfaction is guaranteed. They are available in sizes 5.5 to 11, medium widths, including half sizes, and sizes 6 to 10.5, wide width, including half sizes. I recommend you also purchase the leather cream.

I think they're dynamite boots.
